2. The 49ers’ Injury Curse Isn’t Going Away

No team loses more players than the San Francisco 49ers and many fans still believe the team’s field location has a lot to do with it.

For those wondering, the 49ers practice and play their home games next to the Silicon Valley Power Mission Substation, a maze of steel towers, transformers, and high-voltage transmission lines visible beyond one side of the practice field. This was a major topic during San Francisco’s injury-riddled 2025 season because a viral theory suggested the substation’s electromagnetic field contributed to player soft-tissue injuries.

The team ultimately hired an independent scientist to measure the EMF levels. According to the 49ers, the testing found the magnetic fields around the practice facility were well below recognized safety thresholds, and they concluded the substation was not responsible for the team’s injury issues.

If the substation isn’t responsible, then the 49ers have a much bigger problem. One week into training camp and San Francisco has suffered 10 injuries, not counting Brandon Aiyuk, who is still recovering from a knee injury and doesn’t seem interested in returning to the team. Moreover, wide receiver Ricky Pearsall will miss the 2026 season due to a nagging PCL injury.

Whatever the problem is, the 49ers still haven’t solved it.
