From Patrick Mahomes’ viral throw to Baker Mayfield’s contract drama, here’s what’s actually worth paying attention to.
NFL training camps are back, which means football is finally more than just schedule releases and offseason speculation. In a little more than three days, the Hall of Fame Game kicks off in Canton, Ohio, and the countdown to meaningful football officially begins. Until then, we’re left to dissect practice clips, injury reports, and viral moments. Some deserve attention. Others don’t. Here are the five storylines I can’t stop watching.
5. Marvin Harrison Jr. Can’t Catch… or Can He?
I don’t follow the Arizona Cardinals enough to know if this is an all-week problem or just one bad practice, but Marvin Harrison Jr. had a problem with drops.
I joked on Twitter, (I’ll never call it “X”), that Harrison will do whatever it takes to get out of Arizona, to include creating the narrative he cannot hold onto the ball. In all seriousness, one bad practice doesn’t concern me. What interests me is how quickly social media turns a handful of drops into a referendum on a player’s career.
Harrison, the son of NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison, was arguably dealt a terrible hand when he was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 2024. The former Ohio State standout is a brand name who is paid handsomely but the Arizona Cardinals are the NFL’s oldest franchise, have 0 Super Bowl wins, and a lifetime record of 596-826-41. Still, Harrison is being counted on as a cornerstone piece who can reverse the franchise’s fortunes. Such is what makes the attention Harrison’s bad practice is getting intriguing. In only his second season as a pro, Marvin Harrison Jr. doesn’t get to have bad training camp practices.
The expectations of Harrison are enormous. But much like Justin Jefferson with the Minnesota Vikings, Marvin Harrison Jr. needs a quarterback who can consistently get him the ball. As a rookie, Harrison snagged 41 receptions for 608 yards and 4 touchdowns. Does journeyman quarterback Jacoby Brissett do a better job getting Harrison the ball in 2026?
Regardless of who is throwing Harrison the ball this year, if these drops continue into preseason games, we’ll have something to talk about.
